Belize: The Beauty of Hope
Photographs by Ben Rollins To Benefit The Word at Work
On occasion, an artist is given the privilege of seeing into the dark places of our world. In those moments, a true artist sheds light and uncovers beauty that can effect change in the rest of us. These photographs were taken during a February trip through the Central American nation of Belize, in the shadows of docked cruise ships, just out of sight for vacationing tourists. They offer a glimpse into a world of poverty and desperation few of us will ever see. Much more importantly, they show us the innocent joy and unyielding hope of the people living there.
The 8x10 exhibition will run the entire month of June at Canyon Clay Company. The reception for the show will be Saturday, June 14th from 12 - 2 p.m. 50% of every piece sold will directly go to benefit The Word at Work and their efforts in Belize.
Ben Rollins is a photographer and computer artist living in Amarillo, Texas. His commercial photography, ibrollins.com, has been used nationally to represent a variety of clients through print and online advertising as well as the basis for high-end packaging. He has earned an Associates in Photography from Amarillo College, and recently completed a Bachelors in Computer Art from WTAMU. Earlier this year, Ben was invited by The Word at Work to travel through Belize, and document the various ministries they serve and support. He was changed by the things he saw, and inspired by the stories he heard. He captured these events and stories in his unique artistic style, in the hope that others will be changed and inspired, as well.
